2009 PALS AWARDS TERMS AND CONDITIONS

1.           By entering into the PALS Awards, entrants will be deemed to have read and agreed to abide by these conditions.

2.           Instructions on how to enter the PALS Awards and other details contained in advertising material for the awards, form part of these Terms and Conditions.

3.           The promoter of the PALS Awards is the Department of Indigenous Affairs (DIA), located on the first floor, 197 St George's Terrace, Perth, WA.

4.           To be considered for a PALS Award, schools must forward to the DIA, a completed PALS Award Submission form with supporting documentation and multimedia materials by 5pm on 31 August 2009.

5.           PALS Awards entries will be judged in early Term four by a panel of judges selected by the Department of Indigenous Affairs. The panel will include representatives of the DIA, BHP Billiton, the Department of Education and Training, the Catholic Education Office, the Association of Independent Schools of WA, and the Indigenous community. Judging will take place at the Department of Indigenous Affairs, 1st floor, 197 St George's Terrace, Perth.

6.           Entries will be assessed against one of six categories – Education; Health; Environment; Arts and Culture; Community Development; Sustainable Partnerships. See Competition Categories for the goals against which schools are asked to report.

7.           Winning entries will demonstrate the positive impact of a PALS project against the category specific and general criteria.

8.           Schools are able to enter more than one category.

9.           A one-off payment of $750 is available to all schools that undertake a PALS project and enter the PALS Awards. Schools that are unable to meet their commitment to the Awards are required to refund the payment.

10.       To be eligible for a PALS Awards one-off payment, schools must complete the PALS registration form and tax invoice for $825 (inclusive of GST) by 30 June 2009.

11.       Framed certificates plus Indigenous artwork or artefacts valued at approximately $700 will be given to category winners. Category runners’ up will also receive artworks to the value of approximately $300 by an Indigenous artists. High Commendation prizes will be awarded at the judges’ discretion.

12.       One overall prize will be awarded to the best entry from all categories. The BHP Billiton Award is valued at approximately $900.

13.       All schools will be notified of the PALS Awards results and the winning project details will be posted on the PALS website, as well as published in the Department of Education and Training newspaper, School Matters.

14.       Winners under 18 years of age will need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian to the awards ceremony in Perth.

15.       In the event of a prize being unavailable or cancelled for whatever reason, the promoter reserves the right to substitute alternative prizes of equal value.

16.       Non-cash prizes are not redeemable for cash, nor transferable. Any additional costs or requirements associated with the prize are the responsibility of the winner.

17.       The Department of Indigenous Affairs and supplier of prizes accept no responsibility for any accident, loss, injury or damage to any individual or property arising out of or after PALS Awards presentation events.

18.       Submissions will remain the property of the Department of Indigenous Affairs and may be reproduced in electronic or print forms for promotional purposes.

19.       Schools must provide a copy of the school's consent policy for students involved in PALS. Students and teachers involved in PALS will be included in media releases and photographs promoting PALS on websites, newspapers and other media opportunities.

20.       Written consent must be given by any third party filmed, photographed or otherwise represented in a submission.

21.       Submissions containing language or behaviour deemed to be offensive by DIA will be automatically disqualified.

22.       Entry in the PALS Awards signifies acceptance of all conditions. The promoters' decision will be final and cannot be contested. No correspondence will be entered into.
